Question 56:
The accountant of a assessee while claiming input on rent of Rs. 3,20,000 (
being SGST-28800 and CGST 28800) has taken Rs. 3,20,000,28800 & 28800 in IGST,
CGST & SGST column respectively during the month of Oct 17 in 3B. The said
amount of Rs. 3,20,000 is shown as input credit till date in the credit ledger
of the assessee.
The returns for the period upto 31-03-2018 have been filed. How this mistake be
rectified?
Answer
Input Tax credit when availed in excess shall be added back to the output tax
liability in the succeeding GSTR-3B. and can be paid through cash payment or
through ITC along with interest but interest shall always be paid in cash.
So the amount of Rs 320000 wrongly claimed as IGST credit is required to be
added in the output tax liability of the succeeding GSTR-3B and can be paid
through cash or using ITC along with interest. but interest is to be paid in
cash
Please note succeeding month means any month comes after the month in which
return is filed it does not mean next month only (reply dt 05/12/2018)
