Can the MEIS scrip be used for payment of IGST on imports?

Answer:
According to proviso to section 5(1) IGST on goods imported into India shall be levied in accordance of provision of Section 3 of custom tariff act 1975 and according to Para 3.02 of revised Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020, Duty credit scrips grated under MEIS can be used for Basic Customs Duty and Additional Customs Duty specified under Sections 3 (1), 3 (3) and 3 (5) of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. 
So on the basis above MEIS scrip can be used for payment of IGST on imports. .(REPLY dt. 26/1/2018)
